Chrome Extension Privacy Disclosures (Friend Exporter)
This section covers the "Friend Exporter - Extract friends list" Chrome extension (also referred to as FB Friend Exporter, the name of its product website) and complies with Google's Chrome Web Store User Data Policy. The general policy further below applies to our websites.
A. What We Collect
Authentication and passwords (important). This extension does not ask for, collect, see, store, or transmit any password, including your Google password, your Facebook password, or any other account password. Sign-in to the extension is performed entirely through Google OAuth via Chrome's built-in identity API, which returns only an authentication token, your email address, and your OpenID — passwords never pass through the extension at any point. On the Facebook side the extension performs no login at all: it works with the Facebook session you have already signed into in your own browser, never displays a Facebook login form, and has no way to read your Facebook credentials, two-factor codes, or recovery codes. For clarity on how our backend account works: the account is created with your Google OpenID used in place of a password, so that no password of yours ever needs to exist in our system. Your Google and Facebook passwords are never requested, seen, stored, or transmitted by the extension.
The friend data you export stays on your computer. Every profile the extension collects is written to the extension's local browser storage (chrome.storage.local) and to the CSV file you download. This content is never transmitted to our servers or to any third party. Clearing the list in the extension, or removing the extension, deletes it.
The categories of user data the extension actually collects are listed below. Categories not listed are not collected.
- Facebook profile data you choose to export (local-only). For the friend list you explicitly import, the extension collects the profile fields that Facebook already shows to your logged-in account: user ID, name, profile URL, and avatar URL. If you enable the optional additional columns, it also collects gender, birthday, location, bio, category, email, phone number, and websites — but only where Facebook already makes those fields visible to you. This data is stored in
chrome.storage.local and exported to the CSV you download.
- One Facebook cookie:
c_user (read-only, local-only). This cookie holds the numeric Facebook user ID of the account currently signed in to your browser. The extension reads it solely to confirm that you are logged in to Facebook and to label the export with the right account. It does not read your Facebook session or authentication cookies (such as xs), does not read cookies from any other website, and never transmits the c_user value to our servers.
- Facebook's own GraphQL request parameters (local-only). While you browse a friends list, the extension records the request parameters that Facebook's own web page sends with its GraphQL calls (build identifiers such as
doc_id, __dyn, __csr, and the shape of the query variables, which may include the short-lived request tokens Facebook's page attaches to them). Replaying that template with a new pagination cursor is how the extension loads the next page of friends reliably. These parameters are generated by Facebook's own web page, expire on their own within hours, and are only ever replayed inside the Facebook session already signed in to your browser. They are not account credentials: they cannot be used to sign in to your account, and they are useless outside your own browser. They are kept in chrome.storage.local, are never uploaded to us or to anyone else, and contain no password of any kind.
- Google account email and OpenID (only if you sign in). Obtained via Google OAuth through Chrome's
identity API and sent to our backend to identify your extension account and track your free/Pro quota. No password is received or stored at this step.
- Usage metadata. The extension install event and your Pro/quota status. Contains no profile data, no cookies, and no credentials.
- Subscription metadata (only if you start or manage a paid subscription). Your account ID and selected plan, used to initiate a checkout or billing-portal session.
We explicitly do NOT collect:
- Passwords — not your Google password, not your Facebook password, not any other password or login credential.
- Authenticator app codes, recovery codes, security questions, or any other authentication factor.
- Your Facebook session cookies or login tokens, and no cookies from any website other than the single
c_user ID cookie described above.
- Facebook messages, chat content, notifications, private posts, or any personal communication.
- Personally identifiable information about you beyond the email and OpenID listed above.
- Health information, financial information (the extension never sees your card details — see section D), precise location, or device sensor data.
- Browsing history, or data from websites other than the Facebook pages you are actively exporting from.
B. How It's Handled
- Extraction runs locally in your own session. When you start an export, the extension requests the friend list and profile pages through the Facebook session already signed in to your browser, parses the response in the browser, and writes the result straight to
chrome.storage.local. The profile data is never uploaded; the CSV file is generated in your browser and saved by your own browser's download manager.
- Why the extension needs request permissions. Facebook answers requests made by an extension with a stripped-down document that contains no profile data. For the duration of each request the extension makes itself, it sets three standard headers (
sec-fetch-mode, sec-fetch-dest, accept) so Facebook returns the full page. The rule is scoped to the extension's own background requests, is removed as soon as the request finishes, and never modifies, redirects, or inspects the traffic of the tabs you browse yourself.
- Authentication uses tokens, not passwords. Sign-in is handled by Google OAuth through Chrome's
identity API. The extension only ever receives an OAuth token plus your email and OpenID — your Google password is entered into Google's own sign-in page and is never visible to or handled by the extension. The extension never prompts for, intercepts, or stores your Facebook password.
- Account data is transmitted only to operate the service. Your email, OpenID, session token, install event, and subscription/quota status are sent over HTTPS to our own backend servers to sign you in and enforce free/Pro limits. No exported profile data is included in those requests.
- Your responsibility as the exporter. You decide whose friend list to export and how the resulting CSV is used. You are responsible for using the exported data in line with Facebook's terms and with the privacy and marketing laws that apply to you (for example GDPR or CAN-SPAM). We act only as the tool that produces the file on your device.
C. Where It's Stored
- Exported profile data — stored only in
chrome.storage.local on your own device, plus the CSV file you download. We keep no copy. Clearing the list in the extension or uninstalling the extension removes it.
chrome.storage.local (on your device) — also holds the captured GraphQL request template, your export options, and your session token. The session token is sent to our backend over HTTPS with authenticated requests (this is how sessions work); everything else stays on your device.
- Our own backend servers (operated by ConvLead and hosted in the United States) — your email, OpenID, install event, and subscription/quota status. No exported profile data, no Facebook cookies, and no Facebook request tokens are ever stored on our servers. Account records are kept while your account is active; email
support[at]convlead.com to request deletion.
D. How It's Shared
- Google OAuth — standard sign-in handshake; Google receives the OAuth request and returns your email and OpenID to the extension.
- Our own backend servers — receive your email, OpenID, session token, install event, and subscription status for authentication and quota management.
- Our extension recommendation service (
ms.converts.workers.dev, a Cloudflare Worker we operate) — when the popup opens it receives only the extension name and version number, and returns the list of our other extensions shown in the popup. No personal data, no cookies, and no profile data are sent.
- Subscription and payment providers (e.g. Stripe) — receive your account ID and selected plan to initiate checkout or manage your subscription. Payment card details are handled by the payment provider under their own privacy policy and are never seen or stored by us.
- No third-party analytics. The extension does not embed Google Analytics, Mixpanel, or any other third-party analytics or advertising SDK. The only usage signal it reports is the install event described in section A, and it goes to our own backend.
- We do NOT sell or rent user data, and we do not share user data with advertisers, data brokers, or marketing partners.
- We do NOT share your exported profile data with any third party — that data is processed locally and never transmitted off your device.
- We may disclose limited account information if required by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of ConvLead or its users (see section 3 below).
For extension-related privacy questions or data-deletion requests, email support[at]convlead.com.
